On Tuesday 14 October, at Borough Green Village Hall, local residents and members of the PACT panel got together to discuss issues that affect your quality of life in Borough Green.   The workshop focused on concerns that were raised at the last community workshop, held on 24 April 2007, and also discussed any new concerns and issues.

What did we do?

Groups of residents and partners worked with maps of the area to identify where and when issues were affecting them.

Issues that were discussed included:

  • Ø Minor vandalism
  • Ø Parking
  • Ø Speeding
  • Ø Anti-social behaviour
  • Ø Underage drinking

                 What did we find out?

Many issues were raised which are important to the community in Borough                 Green. We decided to prioritise the 3 most important issues to act on:

                 These were:

  • Ø Parking
  • Ø Speeding
  • Ø Anti-social behaviour

Taking Action

Taking Action

PACT is all about action and making a different to your community. It is everyone's  responsibility to take away the issues we identified and do something to tackle these concerns.

Parking

Main parking issues in Western Road, Harrison Road and Quarry Hill Road.

Also problem with parking on the street causing an obstruction by the Chip Shop in the High Street.

Actions

  • Ø Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council to find out whether double yellow lines can be added in Harrison Road.

  • Ø Problems with Western Road car park to be resolved which will allow residents to park there again (see below for further details)

  • Ø Kent Highways to be contacted to find out if bollards can be put in front of chip shop

Speeding

Could repeaters be added to the A25 in order to encourage drivers to slow down?

Speeding a particular problem in Quarry Hill Road.

Actions

  • Ø Kent Highways to be asked to consider repeaters in the village.

  • Ø Article to be placed in The Voice to remind people about slowing down when driving through the village.

Anti-social behaviour

A minority of young people are causing problems in the Western Road car park and the Village Hall car park. Much of this seems to be linked to underage drinking.

Actions

  • Ø The Police to work with off licences to prevent selling to underage young people.

  • Ø Trading Standards to undertake test purchase operations

  • Ø The Parish Council to consider CCTV for the Western Road car park

  • Ø The police to continue to target those young people causing problems.

  • Ø The Borough Council to look at ways to stop young people getting tickets from the ticket machine in the car park after a certain time.
